10th Group of Copenhagen Conference – Cyprus at the Center of the International Fight for Sports Integrity

05-May-2026 Cyprus is hosting the 10th Group of Copenhagen Conference for the first time, a significant event that elevates the country’s role on the international stage in the fight against corruption in sports.
The conference is taking place at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia on May 5–6, and the opening ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
This is an event held on a regular basis (every six months), usually in Strasbourg, as well as in other countries, and it is very significant that this time it was entrusted to Cyprus and coincides with our country’s assumption of the Presidency of the European Union.
Cyprus’s hosting of the meeting is a clear sign of trust and recognition of the efforts made at the national level to safeguard sports integrity, powerfully underscoring the efforts of the CESS (Committee of Ethics and Sport Safeguarding) to develop strong relationships with similar bodies around the world. At the same time, it places the country in a more active position regarding international developments surrounding the prevention and combating of match-fixing.
More than 40 representatives from various organizations and institutions, including members of the Council of Europe, are participating in the conference, underscoring the international nature and significance of the event.
During the proceedings, a substantive and multifaceted dialogue will take place on critical issues concerning sports integrity. Ways to combat the manipulation of sporting events will be discussed at length, while a comprehensive overview of the contemporary challenges faced by states and relevant bodies will be presented.
Emphasis is placed on technological developments and the new tools now available for the prevention, detection, and investigation of suspicious activities, highlighting the decisive role of innovation in the fight against corruption.
At the same time, there will be an update on the training seminars being held internationally, with the aim of enhancing the knowledge and preparedness of all those involved.
The 10th Group of Copenhagen conference is not just another international meeting, but a pivotal event for exchanging expertise and formulating a common strategy.
For Cyprus, this event marks a significant upgrade of its role, confirming that it can serve as an active pillar in the global effort for clean and trustworthy sports.
